Root,shoot and soil parameters required for process-oriented models of crop growth limited by water or nutrients 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A review is given of the prospects for using process-oriented models of water and nutrient uptake in improving integrated agriculture. Government-imposed restrictions on the use of external inputs will increase the likelihood of (temporary) nutrient or water stress in crop production in NW Europe and thus a better understanding is required of shoot-root-soil interactions than presently available. In modelling nutrient and water uptake, three approaches are possible: 1) models-without-roots, based on empirically derived efficiency ratios for uptake of available resources, 2) models evaluating the uptake potential of root systems as actually found in the field and 3) models which also aim at a prediction of root development as influenced by interactions with environmental factors. For the second type of models the major underlying processes are known and research can concentrate on model refinement on the one hand and practical application on the other. The main parameters required for such models are discussed and examples are given of practical applications. For the third type of models quantification of processes known only qualitatively is urgently needed. 相似文献

Photoinhibition of photosynthesis in the brown alga, Dictyota dichotoma, was studied with a PAM fluorometer (Walz, Effeltrich, Germany) and a homemade oxygen measuring device. As a measure of fluorescence, Fv/Fm, and for the photosynthetic yield, ΔF/Fm', were used. Oxygen measurements show clearly that the observed degree, as well as the time course, of photoinhibition depends on the fluence rate of the light used to measure changes of the production rate. After photoinhibition of photosynthesis the depression of oxygen production caused by non-saturating fluence rates was generally much more pronounced than that caused by saturating or nearly saturating fluence rates. At minimal photoinhibition the initial slope and the convexity of the fluence rate-response curve of oxygen evolution decrease, whereas the level of light saturation decreases only after strong photoinhibition. Nevertheless, at different degrees of photoinhibition, changes in the degree of the upper bending of the fluence rate-response curve of oxygen production are also linearly correlated to changes in the fluorescence ratios (Fv/Fm and ΔF/Fm'). The action spectrum of photoinhibition, calculated on the basis of changes of Fv/Fm, indicates that the reaction center of PS I is not involved in photoinhibition. The lower effectiveness of blue light in comparison to effects of green and red light may be due to chloroplast displacement, as in the so-called strong light position, the light absorbed by the thalli in vivo is decreased. 相似文献

Mixtures of 1(3)-monostearin and distearin were prepared by direct esterification of glycerol with stearic acid or transesterification using ethyl stearate as acyl donor in the presence of Candida antarctica lipase (Novozym 435) using a variety of solvents of differing polarity. In all cases, the transesterification resulted in higher product yields. In n-heptane as reaction medium the addition of water (3%) was essential for high product yields, with mono- and distearin being produced in almost equal amounts. Using more polar solvents as reaction media, such as acetonitrile or acetone, again the highest yields were obtained in the transesterification mode; employing these solvents the reactions were much more selective towards the formation of monostearin. 相似文献

Abstract. Goat grazing is examined as a possible tool for grassland management. In this paper, goat grazing preferences are described. The proportion of biomass of particular species eaten by a goat was estimated on the basis of comparison of paired quadrats. The control quadrats were clipped before grazing and their biomass was compared with the biomass in grazed quadrats. Estimates of the proportion consumed were calculated for frequent species; they were significantly different among species; the most preferred species was Polygonum bistorta, a species with broad, soft, nutritious leaves. The least grazed species were Agrostis tenuis and Galium harcynicum. Various indices of food selectivity (e.g. forage ratio, electivity index) were calculated and their behaviour was compared. Canonical Correspondence Analysis and Redundancy Analysis with appropriate covariates reflecting the block design of the experiment were used to evaluate overall changes in species composition and yielded results similar to those from the direct estimation of the proportion consumed. 相似文献

Summary The classic Hawk—Dove game is extended to deal with continuous variation in resource-holding potential or RHP, when RHP is observable (via any sensory modality) but RHP difference is less than perfectly reliable as a predictor of the outcome of an escalated contest. The relationship between sensory and physical magnitudes of RHP is assumed to be governed by Fechner's psychophysical law, whose effect is that contestants interact as if they had perfect information about their relative RHP (as opposed to RHP difference). Thus, an animal is aggressive if its RHP exceeds a certain fraction, called its threshold, of its opponent's RHP and otherwise is non-aggressive; and the classic Hawk and Dove strategies correspond to zero and infinite thresholds, respectively. For RHPs drawn at random from an arbitrary Gamma distribution there is a unique evolutionarily stable strategy or ESS, which depends on a parameter measuring the reliability of RHP as a predictor of the outcome of a fight, on the ratio of the valueV of winning to the costC of losing (both measured in units of reproductive fitness) and on the mean µ and variance 2 of the RHP distribution. In a population at this ESS, ifV/C < 1 then the threshold is 1 and there is no fighting. AsV/C increases beyond 1 to a second critical value , however, the threshold decreases steadily from 1 to 0 and remains 0 forV/C > ; is an increasing function of , but a decreasing function of 2. That a lower variance of RHP can imply a lower escalation frequencyp is a novel insight of the analysis. The prediction is at first counterintuitive, because if the aggression threshold were fixed then larger variance would imply lowerp (dispersion effect of variance). When natural selection acts on the threshold, however, increasing the variance not only reduces the probability that an animal with larger RHP will be attacked by an animal with lower RHP at the existing threshold, but also reduces the expected costs of adopting that particular threshold, so that a mutant with a somewhat lower threshold can invade the population (selection effect of variance). We study the dynamics of a three species food chain using bifurcation theory to demonstrate the existence of chaotic dynamics in the neighborhood of the equilibrium where the top species in the food chain is absent. The goal of our study is to demonstrate the presence of chaos in a class of ecological models, rather than just in a specific model. This work extends earlier numerical studies of a particular system by Hastings and Powell (1991) by showing that chaos occurs in a class of ecological models. The mathematical techniques we use are based on work by Guckenheimer and Holmes (1983) on co-dimension two bifurcations. However, restrictions on the equations we study imposed by ecological assumptions require a new and somewhat different analysis. 相似文献

Abstract: There is an increasing understanding that the microbial quality of a certain food is the result of a chain of events. It is clear that the microbial safety of food can only be guaranteed when the overall processing, including the production of raw materials, distribution and handling by the consumer are taken into consideration. Therefore, the microbiological quality assurance of foods is not only a matter of control, but also of a careful design of the total process chain. Food industry has now generally adapted quality assurance systems and is implementing the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) concept. Rapid microbiological monitoring systems should be used in these cases. There is a need for rapid and simple microbiological tests which can be adapted to the technology and logistics of specific production processes. Traditional microbiological methods generally do not meet these high requirements. This paper discusses the tests, based on molecular biological principles, to detect and identify microbes in food-processing chains. Tests based on DNA technology are discussed, including in vitro DNA amplification like the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and identifications based on RFLP, RAPD and DNA fingerprinting analysis. PCR-haled methodology can be used for the rapid detection of microbes in food manufacturing environments. In addition, DNA fingerprinting methods are suitable for investigating sources and routes of microbial contamination in the food cycle. 相似文献

A total of 32 calcicolous lichen species, one alga and one bryophyte were recorded on a limestone wall in the grassland Great Alvar on the Baltic island of Öland, Sweden. Fourteen (41%) of these 34 species and free-living cyanobacteria showed herbivore damage, most probably due to grazing by the land snails Chondrina clienta and Balea perversa which inhabited the limestone wall. Three laboratory experiments were conducted to examine the food preferences of individuals of C. clienta and B. perversa collected at this site and to evaluate any association between their preference and the net food quality of the lichens to the snails. Chondrina clienta and B. perversa exhibited food preferences, which differed significantly between species. Within species, variation in food choice was similar among individuals. This indicates that snail populations may be composed of polyphagous individuals with similar food preferences. Different lichen species were of different net food quality to the snails as indicated by growth rate differences. In both snail species the most preferred lichen species of the choice experiment caused the largest weight increase in juveniles, viz. Caloplaca flavovirescens for C. clienta and Aspicilia calcarea for B. perversa. This suggest that the snail species studied differ in their abilities to deal with secondary compounds and physical characteristics of certain lichens or that they can utilize the energy and nutrients of these lichens to a different extent. It is suggested that differential food preferences might reduce the intensity of interspecific competition for resources (lichens) between C. clienta and B. perversa. 相似文献
